Been a while.  Been a crazy year so far.  I’ve had a lot of health issues.  Constant health issues.  I’m working on addressing those issues and getting healthy again, getting back on track with my debt pay off.  This year will definitely be a memorable one.  Lots of changes happening.  I also turn 30 in June and celebrate 20 years of being cancer free!  Can’t wait to celebrate!

I’ve been slacking so far this year.  My mom came to visit for a month and I had a wonderful time.  After she left, I hit a major depression.  I haven’t worked much, haven’t been volunteering, and don’t have motivation to do much these days, especially after recently suffering from sudden hearing loss.  I’m now on two weeks of high-dose prednisone and am not a fan of the side effects at all.  I don’t know what I’m doing and I’m not myself these days.  Bear with me as I get back on track.

2 YEARS! Progress Update

Debt Perception has been around for two years! Happy blogiversary to me! Let’s take a look at how I’ve done financially in the past two years!

usedtoowe

If you saw my previous post, Navient messed up my last payment allocation. I had planned on over $1,000 going towards my smallest loan, with the hopes of paying it off in January. They had applied my payment to StudentLoan#2 instead. I perused Navient’s Facebook page and found somewhere that I could complain to. They had called me while I was busy at work all day and I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognize, so I didn’t get the message until about 7pm. I guess they could have fixed the payment to be applied as intended but I had to call back by 5pm. I’m sure it was too late to fix it as they aren’t open on the weekend. Oh well!  It was still applied towards my loans and I’m a little bit closer towards the principal balance on StudentLoan#2.

I’m going to start taking screen captures of my allocations and monitor my Navient account after submitting payments to make sure they apply it accordingly!

22 Month Progress Update

Original Debt (December 14, 2012): $102,645

Current Debt (22 months later): $90,753

My debt has decreased by $1,203 since last month.  An overall reduction of $11,892 in 22 months.  I’m now at 11.58% of my debt payoff goal.

DEBT BREAKDOWN

Federal Student Loans $59,225 $59,473 (up $248 since last month, an overall $3,573 increase over 22 months)

Private Student Loans $32,731 $31,280 (down $1,451 since last month, an overall decrease of $9,341 in 22 months)

  • StudentLoan#1: $3,061  $3,059 (down $2 since last month, an overall decrease of $4,101 in the past 22 months)
  • StudentLoan#2: $10,549 $10,553 (up $4 since last month, an overall decrease of $637 in 22 months)
  • StudentLoan#3: $17,149 $17,156 (up $7 since last month, an overall decrease of $1,084 in 22 months)
  • StudentLoan#4: $1,973 $513 (down $1,460 since last month, an overall decrease of $3,508 in 22 months)

StudentLoan#4 will likely be paid off next month AND I’m hoping to drop out of the 90k range!

My student loans have been switched over to Navient, Sallie Mae’s alter-ego.  It’s about time to reapply for Income Based Repayment but was waiting for the Navient switch-over.

The past two months or so have been rough.  I sleep horribly, and not much.  It’s definitely taking a toll.  I took a week off from work to try to figure out the whole non-sleep thing.  I thought maybe I needed to get out and do things, get some sun, so I explored my area for the first time since moving here 3 years ago.  It didn’t really help.  If two weeks of eating healthy and exercise don’t fix this for me, I need to see a specialist.

21 Month Progress Update

Oy!  It’s been another month since I’ve posted!

Original Debt (December 14, 2012): $102,645

Current Debt (21 months later): $91,956

My debt has decreased by $554 since last month.  An overall reduction of $10,689 in 21 months.  I’m now at 10.41% of my debt payoff goal.

DEBT BREAKDOWN

Federal Student Loans $59,007 $59,225 (up $218 since last month, an overall $3,325 increase over 21 months)

Private Student Loans $33,503 $32,731 (down $772 since last month, an overall decrease of $7,890 in 21 months)

  • StudentLoan#1: $3,140  $3,061 (down $79 since last month, an overall decrease of $4,099 in the past 21 months)
  • StudentLoan#2: $10,550 $10,549 (down $1 since last month, an overall decrease of $641 in 21 months)
  • StudentLoan#3: $17,150 $17,149 (down $1 since last month, an overall decrease of $1,091 in 21 months)
  • StudentLoan#4: $2,663 $1,973 (down $690 since last month, an overall decrease of $2,048 in 21 months)

After mistaking StudentLoan#4 for StudentLoan#1 on multiple occasions, I’ve decided to push #4 up to the first to be paid off because there is only $1,973 left on it and it is my loan with the highest interest rate (9.75).  The reason it was originally lowest on my list is because it is the only private student loan I have without a co-signer.  I want to plow through the remaining balance so I can put more towards my other loans, slowly knock them down, one by one.
