About

My name is Kasey, age 29, and as of December 2012, I’m drowning in $102,645 of debt.  Between 2005 and 2009 I attended the Illinois Institute of Art-Schaumburg and majored in Media Arts & Animation debt.  I was ignorant about student loans and made the mistake of attending a for-profit school.  The next 22 years of repayment look rather bleak and so I will do everything humanly (morally) possible to make as much money as I can to pay my debt slave master off and be debt free!

I’m a Navy wife and have been married to my sailor for three years.  I currently work part-time as a personal assistant/admin for a small family-owned business, Jpixx LLC.  I volunteer at a local animal shelter and with the Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia chapter as a Wish Granter.  I’ve spent the past two years helping out at the ForgiveStudentLoanDebt.com group on Facebook and spreading the word about the Student Debt Crisis.  I feel strongly that reform is needed to end the predatory nature of student loans and to bring down the costs of higher education.  I couldn’t wish this debt load on my worst enemy and so I will do what I can to educate whomever will listen about the dangers of student loan debt!

My biggest accomplishment in life is being a brain tumor survivor of 19 years!  I have the will (sisu) to beat this seemingly insurmountable debt to a pulp like I did with cancer!  I don’t consider myself to be a total personal finance blogger because not every post will be about money.  This blog is my personal journey towards becoming debt free, documenting my triumphs and even those depressing lows.  So step on up and enjoy the roller coaster of my life!  I am an open book and welcome any questions and comments!

  1. I love your blog. I too think the the education industry is way out of bounds! The cost of education keeps going up and no one blinks an eye. They just think there is nothing we can do about it. Good job for you and I wish you huge success!

  2. Just started reading your blog and love it. I was a navy brat growing up for 6 years and know all about that life. I can’t say I would wish it on anyone. My dad was gone for long periods of time and as a young Kid I didn’t understand. Since it looks like you are very artistic have you tried making craft items and selling on etsy? I saw your how To make a gift bag and wouldn totally buy some if I saw them on etsy. also, what kind of drawings do you do? I just bought a house and have loads of decorating to do. I love the look of a drawing in a simple frame and would be willing to pay you to draw me something. Money can go towards your debt and I can have a cool wall art from a fell debt blogger. 🙂

    • Oh my gosh! Kaseys are awesome! I’ve gotten into a non-creative funk and I’m working on trying to get out of it. I want to be able to sell my artwork but after a year of unemployment I kind of lost motivation. I’m working on regaining the passion again. I wonder if I could sell those gift bags on Fiverr? Thanks for the idea! 🙂 I would love to create some art for you to hang on your walls! I could draw anything that suits your style and interests. I’ve been wanting to create some paintings for my own walls…I haven’t painted in a lonnngg time but we could try that too if you’d like! Thanks for the interest, this made my day!
